Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup water (approximate, adjust for dough consistency)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak and Blend the Lentils: Soak the red lentils in water for at least 4 hours or overnight to soften them. Drain well, then blend the lentils with water until you achieve a thick, slightly grainy batter.
  2. Mix in the Flavorings: Add baking powder, lemon juice, olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to the blended lentils. Blend briefly until combined into a spreadable dough. Fold in sesame seeds or other optional add-ins if using.
  3. Spread the Dough Thinly: Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Spread the lentil dough evenly and very thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) on the tray to ensure crispiness.
  4. Bake Until Crispy: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the dough for 25-30 minutes. Halfway through baking, remove the tray to score the dough into chip-sized pieces with a sharp knife. Return to the oven and bake until edges are golden and chips snap easily.
  5. Cool and Break Apart: Transfer the baked lentil sheet to a wire rack and allow to cool completely so it crisps fully. Once cooled, break into chip-sized pieces ready for serving.

Notes

  • Spread the dough as thinly as possible without tearing to achieve maximum crispiness.
  • Rotate the baking sheet halfway through baking for even cooking.
  • Scoring before the second bake ensures neat chip portions and prevents cracking.
  • Cooling the chips completely is essential for the best crunch.
  • Store chips in an airtight container at room temperature to keep them crunchy for up to 3 days.
  • To refresh chips, reheat in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for 5 minutes.
