Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups milk (whole milk preferred, but any milk can be used)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Your Waffle Iron: Plug in your waffle iron and preheat it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease the plates with cooking spray or melted butter to prevent sticking, ensuring a crisp exterior.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt. This ensures even distribution of the leavening agent and sugar for consistent rise and sweetness.
  3. Combine the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then whisk in the milk, melted butter (warm but not hot), and vanilla extract to prevent cooking the eggs prematurely.
  4. Create the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients bowl and gently fold until just combined. Small lumps are fine; avoid overmixing to keep waffles tender and light.
  5. Cook the Waffles: Pour the recommended amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron and close the lid gently. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid opening too soon to prevent tearing.
  6. Serve Warm: Remove the waffle carefully with a fork or tongs and transfer to a wire rack to keep crisp. Serve immediately or keep warm in a low oven while cooking remaining waffles.

Notes

  • Use eggs and milk at room temperature for smoother batter mixing.
  • Stir the batter just until ingredients come together to maintain lightness.
  • Let the batter rest for 5-10 minutes for better texture.
  • Keep cooked waffles warm on a wire rack in a 200°F oven instead of stacking.
  • Adjust cooking time as needed depending on your waffle iron.
